Vedic Astrology and Wonders in Predictions

Astrology is a part of astronomy and mathematics, put together. It is a vast subject in itself, having indefinite boundaries in the world of predictions.

The ancient Indian astrologers, Varahamihira and Bhaskaracharya were examples of astrologers with great predicting abilities. These astrologers took Indian astrology to great heights. Indian astrology is also known as Vedic astrology. When it comes to accuracy in predictions, vedic astrology has always shown its supremacy.

According to Indian astrology, stars (or nakshathras) and grahas(planets) play a big role, in the predictions. Everyday, every hour, every month and the whole year is ruled by planets and the stars below them.

Place of birth and time is very much needed to create a person's horoscope. As Varahamihira has rightly said, Time and place can change anyone. He was excellent and superb in predicting things. He was the most respected astrologer during the reign of Vikramaditya, the king of Ujjain.

gives details of Varahamihira very clearly.

And these books are helpful guides to know the interesting topics on Vedic atrology.

How rains were measured in ancient India?

People in ancient times always watched the changes taking place in the nature, very closely.  They watched the positions and movements of planets. The year in which the heat intensity from sun was more, the rains were scanty.  And the year in which moon was powerful, the rains were more, greenery was seen everywhere and human beings were healthier.  The year in which the Mercury, Jupiter and Venus show their prominence has good results. If the Saturn rules the year yields bad results says sage Parashar.

Sage Parashar gives a good explanation on the rains. “Atha Jaladhak nirnayaha

shatha yojanah vistheernah

Threen sharyojana mucchithram

Adhakasya bhave maanam

Munibihi parikeerthitham.”

To measure the rains, in ancient times, the Rishis(sages) had used the yardstick.  The area of adhaka (100 yojana wide and 300 yojana height) in a water body had a good capacity to hold water.  Yojana is the thickness of a finger.  I drona=4 adhaka= 6.4 cm

It is somewhat equivalent to the rain measurement done in modern days.  Kautilya’s Arthashastra (economics) has description on how rain was measured in different parts of the country(India) based on “Drona”.

What is Drona rain?

Rains that pour down continuously for 7 days from 3 clouds or a light drizzle from eighty clouds or the light showers from 60 clouds with sunshine. This is explained well in Kautilya’s Arthashastra.

In a year if it rains 16 dronas(25 inches) then there will be dry crops. One and half times(37.5 inches) of rain yields wet crops.  Agricultural land was categorized based on the rainfall in that region.  If the beginning of the rain in the months of July – August (Shravan) were 1/3rd of the annual rainfall and the ending months i.e. October-November(karthika) had rains. And in the middle of the rainy season, i.e. in the month of August-September(Bhadrapada-Ashwija) had 2/3 of the rainfuall, then that particular year was a year that had good rainfall.

The north Indian states that were ruled by Asmakas had 13.5 dronas of rain and Avanti was the state that measured 23 dronas of rainfall in a year.  Western and Himalayan borders of India had more rainfall.

Who is going to get the world's fastest train?

Right now, the question is, "Who is going to get the fastest train in the world?"

Railways have been the best, when it comes to mass transportation. The latest technologies have been tried in the development of this mode of transportation. Many nations already have the fastest means of transportation. Bullet trains and Maglev trains have changed the lifestyle of many nations. Many of them are still on their way to get the fastest trains.

China has just unveiled it's fastest train. It topped out at a whopping 245mph (394km/h) during the trial runs. However, the average speed is 217mph (350 km/h). The new train is more faster than the bullet train, and it links the city of Wuhan in central China to Guangzhou in the south, covering a total distance of 663 miles (1,068km). The latest rail service cuts the travel time and makes it easy for citizens to travel long distances. Now, It has cut short the distance between the two cities from over 6 hours down to 2 hours and 45 minutes.

In the United States, President Obama has made an announcement to the sunshine state, Florida that the first phase work of their bullet train system will soon start. $2.5 billion will be initially spent for the first phase. The high speed bullet train system from Orlando to Tampa, will eventually connect to Miami.

Solar powered bullet trains would make their entry soon. Arizona state's Tucson to Phoenix travel may soon be blazing across the desert in speeding solar powered bullet trains. Traveling at a speed of 220mph the bullet train would make the trip in just 30 minutes flat. The 110 megawatts power would be generated by solar panels mounted above the tracks. This solar powered bullet train system is being proposed by Solar Bullet LLC, founded by Bill Gaither and Raymond Wright.

Hi-fi and classic trains

Dubai Metro Train

“09-09-09”….Doesn’t that look like a magic number? It is indeed a wonderful day for the UAE citizens. A fully automated driverless metro rail system was unveiled on that day. It is the first urban rail system in Gulf Co-operation Council.

It will be the world's longest driverless rail system, with a total length of approximately 75 kilometers, consisting of the newly completed Red Line and the Green Line (Phase II) currently under construction, which will run through the old city along Dubai Creek. The network will substantially ease Dubai's traffic congestion stemming from rapid population growth.

Using Nol Card in UAE - Just touch and go…
With Nol Card, all you need to do is 'touch & go', which means you simply tap your card on a the card reader at the entry and exit gates of Metro and Waterbus stations; at the entrance of every RTA Bus and on all RTA parking meters. The system will then automatically deduct the correct fare from your card. It's quick and easy to use and means you no longer need to carry cash to get around the city.

Trains: Part of our daily life

Old and beautiful trains:

The old trains have become totally outdated and they are run only in hills and valleys as narrow gauge trains. Most of these old trains are now just show pieces at big museums in the world. But the enchanting beauty and looks of the old trains have made them unique pieces for the exhibition. We can see some of the oldest models in these museums.

A beautiful hindi movie song shot alongside the train

In India, to encourage tourism the government introduced trains having royal looks and luxury. They are called “Palaces on Wheels”. It is worth travelling in these trains if someone need comforts and royal luxury while travelling.

Mumbai’s electric trains add nerves to the peoples’ lifestyle there. During rush hours it becomes very difficult to travel from one place to another in this huge city. But the people have got adjusted to the fast life and environment here like in other big cities of the world.

Goods or Freight trains:

Double decker Trains:

Some trains have sexiest and sleek looks. As they move along the twist and turns of hills and forests, they can also be described as simlilar to "ladies with beauty".

Toy trains:

Trains are also a poet’s favorite sometimes. Many poets have described the trains in their poems. A few are also kids’ rhyme songs like the song of engine,"Engine number nine". This rhyme song is taught in Kindergarten schools all over the world. Shall we have a look into this rhyme song?

Engine, engine number nine,
When it’s ready it will shine;
Engine, engine number nine,
Then we’ll ride on the Bombay line.

The inventors of the engine and train will be surely smiling from the heavens to see them highly developed by leaps and bounds, in all these years.
